Graduate Recruitment

Good staff are critically important to us. Without them there is no business. They are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds and whilst most of the accountancy trainees are graduates we do recruit foundation course students. Some of our tax department staff have gained previous valuable experience with the Inland Revenue and our financial services personnel have pensions and insurance backgrounds.

The atmosphere within the offices is friendly and informal and we hope conducive to high quality professional work whilst recognising the need for occasional relaxation. Various social and sporting events are organised by the staff after office hours to cater for those with the energy and stamina!

Our clients are drawn from a wide spectrum of businesses and potential staff will be expected to have a high standard of verbal and written English to enable them to deal with each individual client’s needs. People with a sense of purpose and commitment to their work laced with common sense and most importantly for the tough times, a sense of humour, will enjoy working in our offices.

Job Opportunities

Specific opportunities arise as promotions occur. It is our policy to promote from within wherever possible and this gives both technical and administration staff the opportunity to transfer between departments and occasionally, offices.

Where outside staff have to be recruited every attempt is made not only to acquire the necessary technical expertise but also to match personalities.

The partners monitor progress and for qualified accountants promotion to manager and eventual partnership is a possibility, the majority of the present partners having trained with the firm.

Post Qualification

The years immediately after qualification are important in shaping a career. To keep all options open a further two years spent in practice to provide the qualifying time for a practising certificate will be well spent.

The most interesting work such as company investigations, finance raising and planning will be allocated to qualified staff who can work on their own initiative. Further staff management experience will be gained together with consolidation of existing technical and procedural knowledge.

Courses run by the training consortium on a variety of topics ensure that staff are kept up to date on professional matters and have the opportunity to develop deeper knowledge of particular subjects.

Prospects

Qualification with a medium sized firm opens up a wide spectrum of employment not only within the firm where partnership is of course a possibility. Professional practices of all sizes welcome candidates with very good accounting experience matched by knowledge of large firm audit techniques and a large exposure to different types of business.

Commercial concerns are equally welcoming to candidates who are strong in accounting and are used to ‘doing’ not only checking. Past students have gone on to become finance directors of public companies, partners in professional practices and used their knowledge to set up and run their own non-professional businesses. Whichever direction is chosen we feel that the training given here should give you a sound base from which to expand your knowledge and achieve your goals.
