In recent years HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has incurred substantial costs in implementing a data and risk interrogation system known as “Connect”.
HMRC uses the “Connect” system to select individuals and businesses for investigation. Anything that doesn’t cross match might be selected; you can even be selected at random (but this is less frequent nowadays, due to the “Connect system.”
