Doug has over 35 years of experience, gained from his time with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and the profession, in resolving tax disputes for individuals and businesses. Throughout his career, Doug has combined his practical skills with his technical understanding of tax to make a real impact for his clients.
Prior to joining Brebners in September 2019, Doug worked for a Big Four firm, a national mid-tier firm and a top 50 firm, where he was a partner, advising clients who were either the subject of a tax investigation or who wished to make a voluntary disclosure.
Doug specialises in providing advice to clients who require assistance in the following areas:
- Code of Practice 9 / Contractual Disclosure Facility (CDF)
- Personal tax residence / domicile
- Company residence
- Time limits
- Discovery assessments
- Appeals and tribunal support
- Voluntary disclosures
Doug is a member of ICAEW’s Tax Investigations Practitioners Group (TIPG). He also sits on the Tax Committee for HOSPA (Hospitality Finance, Revenue and IT Professionals); he enjoys contributing his professional insight for the benefit of this association.
Outside of work, Doug enjoys cheering on the Scottish rugby team and stocking up his wine cellar with bottles from the Wine Society.
